National Youth Director urges young Christians to build on the faith of earlier generations

The National Youth Ministry Director of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Henry Kyei-Mensah, has called on young Christians to remain firmly rooted in their faith while taking an active role in shaping the future of the Church.

In a message marking National Youth Ministry Day 2026, Rev. Kyei-Mensah described the theme for the celebration, “The Faith of Our Fathers Influencing the Future of Our Faith,” as both a celebration of the Church’s spiritual heritage and a challenge to the present generation of believers.

Event

He said the occasion provides an opportunity for young people to reflect on the commitment, sacrifices, and perseverance of earlier generations of Christians whose dedication laid the foundation for the growth of the Church.

“The faith we enjoy today did not emerge by chance,” he noted. “It was built through the prayers, perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of men and women who remained faithful to the Gospel despite numerous challenges.”

Drawing inspiration from scriptures including Hebrews 11, Psalm 78:4–7, Joel 2:28–29, and 2 Timothy 1:5, Rev. Kyei-Mensah urged young believers to preserve the Christian faith and intentionally transmit its values to future generations.

He stressed that maintaining the legacy of faith requires more than simply remembering the past, adding that today’s youth must cultivate a personal relationship with God, depend on the Holy Spirit, and actively engage in evangelism and discipleship.

Priorities

As part of the Youth Ministry’s focus for 2026, Rev. Kyei-Mensah highlighted three key priorities: remembering the testimonies and sacrifices of the fathers of the faith, pursuing a deeper encounter with the Holy Spirit, and reaching the next generation through evangelism in fulfilment of the Great Commission.

He further encouraged young people to recognise their present role in the Church, emphasising that they are not merely leaders of tomorrow but active partners in ministry today.

“The future of the Church is being shaped now,” he said. “Every young believer has a responsibility to uphold the Gospel, serve faithfully, and leave behind a legacy that will strengthen generations yet to come” he further observed.

Rev. Kyei-Mensah concluded his message with a prayer for Youth Ministry Day celebrations across Assemblies of God Ghana, asking God to renew the passion of young people for the Gospel and empower them to build faithfully on the foundation established by those who have gone before them.
